Tumblr is weird because one slip up can literally take you from beloved saint to being labeled as an irredeemable piece of trash. Like Joss Whedon. I’m not crazy about him, and some things in Age of Ultron did bother me, but damn. Suddenly everything he’s ever said or done is terrible. Like people used to love Buffy, Firefly and the first Avengers movie, and now suddenly everyone’s bending over backwards to find ways of accusing him of being a terrible, racist, sexist person. And it’s happened to a lot of people. You know you don’t have to agree with every damn thing a person says or does to like or respect them. People make mistakes sometimes. And it’s just weird because it’s such a hivemind, like one minute something is beloved by everyone, but then someone decides it’s bad and soon everyone is just condemning it as the worst thing in existence.

More than 1,100 people have died in India’s 118-degree heatwave

India can be a hot place, but a heatwave gripping much of the country through the month of May is especially bad this year. Temperatures in the capital city of New Delhi reached 118 degrees Monday. The mercury climbed so high, locals on the ground reported the streets of the metropolis were melting. Three groups have seen the most numbers of deaths.

  • even the best/most moral argument will be met with resistance if it is presented in a spiteful and immature way
  • no one person can speak for an entire group
  • there is a difference between embracing and exploiting/romanticizing

  • Shouting does not mean you’re right.
  • Appealing to emotion does not mean you’re right.
  • Most things in life are not as simple, straightforward and black and white as tumblr will make you believe.
  • Most people are too complicated to be reduced to simple labels.
  • Everyone screws up. Including you. You’re not perfect, you’re as flawed and inconsistent as everyone else. The sooner you learn this the better.

  • the real world is not like tumblr. don’t expect it to be.
  • being cooped up inside all the time on the internet is not comically tragic and good for you.
  • in order to enact change you have to do more than just sign an online petition. you have to go places and talk to people.
  • wallowing in your mental illness and doing nothing to alleviate the negative effects of it will not land you anywhere good. let alone a job.
  • you need to realize it isn’t how much people know about social issues when you get to them that matters. what really matters is how willing they are to listen to you and question themselves when prompted to do so.
  • that being said you are also not the social savior. 
  • you will not win every fight.
